Hello my xj seems to be running hot, its doesn't read high on the temp gauge but it sure seems hot and also I can smell oil burning when I get out of it. My dipstick reads safe and it doesn't leak oil anywhere that I can see. Suggestions?
You may just be burning a little bit of oil. Check your anti freeze and make sure it's ok and a 50/50 mix. Make sure ur vehicle has a fan shroud and one last thing the thermostat could be sticking. But as long as your temp gauge is working it should be right

If you're going through antifreeze you may have a blown head gasket or cracked head that's letting antifreeze into the cylinders where it's burnt off with fuel. Too much and you risk bending rods and such.
