Should I spend the extra money to buy the kit that includes the control arms? My jeep is used mostly for commuting.

Imo if u don't do crazy hard wheeling or only mild trails to mud. Then no put that money into a locker...if u go for a 4.5 in then yes go for control arms. But that's my oppion

I've never lifted any vehicle before. What exactly do the new control arms do?

I just go for the web site I gave. U
Next question how much wheeling do u do and what kind?. Mud rocks mix of both?...just grab that rc 3 in kit that way u don't need a SYE. Or a tc drop...thats the cheapest and nicest way to lift imo
...again if that was your trail rig that u use then go a head and invest in lca and all those goodies.
