my motor was swapped in my 96 xj sport long before i got it... it was swapped to a 98 xj I6... motor funs fine buutttttttt....
in pre 98 there was 2 temp sensors... one for the gauge (rear of the block) and one for the CPU (t-stat housing)...
in 98+ the two sensors were built in on and go to into the T-stat housing...
whoever swapped the motor never change to the 98 harness so im stuck with a truck thats CPU reads the temp but i cant read the gauge because there is no place for the sensor to go in the motor...
anybody have any ideas on how to get a 96 sensor into a 98 motor? or how to splice the wires so that it works?
thanks alot i wanna get all of my stuff fixed on friday so i can make my build thread saturday

I've read that you can drill and tap the late model head in the left rear corner to locate your early model temp sender like it was originally..
There are not really any extra ports to use for a sensor so I extended the therm housing out by screwing a short section of 3/8 npt pipe bout 1/2" long. Then a 3/8 npt T fitting screwed onto that then I put my sensor in one hole and a mechanical temp gauge in the other. It a little out of the main coolant stream not but it operates fine. I think its kinda the same basic thin as freegdr's setup.

There's no room where the one on a 96 goes cause thAts where the motor ground is located... I'm gonna try the t fitting on the temp sensor on the t stat housing
