95 xj transmission issue

95 xj transmission issue
when i shift into d its got a lot of lag the engine is in high rpms but im going absolutely no where. same thing with 3 but once i shift into 1-2 it gets torque and keeps up with the rpms

when i shift into drive and get on the throttle the rpms go up but the jeep barely moves no matter how high i get the rpms same when i shift into 3rd but when i shift into 1-2 it has no problem what so ever
