I just bought a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo four days ago. Everything was fine when I got it until the inside dash lights went as well as the tail lights. I figured it was just a blown fuse, but when I went to replace it and turned on the headlights, it popped immediately. The headlights still stayed on. I checked the wiring behind the tail lights and nothing hinted a short circuit. A few hours later I noticed that the vehicle wouldn't turn on, no electric, and no sound whatsoever. I tried to jump the battery and the electric turned on without sound, but it still wouldn't turn over. Wondering if fuses are blowing left and right? A fusable link issue? What do you suggest?

 

my 90 had the same issue when i got it from the other owner .. dont know what the issue was but the main power wire to the column was not sending power and they hacked it up.. i had to run a new wire install a few relays and they blew out the light switch which did knock out the dash and the taillights i rewired a bunch of things like i do in my racecars so there will never be a problem again.. check your main wires going to your column large yellow and large red (top of the column under dash) red should be constant power ..yellow is switched and takes power from that red wire to the rest of the column and fuse panel .. wire schematic will help you greatly if you are not to good at wiring issues ..

not sure if its a common issue but i reengineered a bunch of wiring so it cannot happen again
