Default 8.25 locker question

Im in the process of converting from a dana 35 to an 8.25 and i found my new rear is a 27 spline. My plans involve a locker such as an Aussie or Lock Rite. My question is can i use a 29 spline locker and just convert the shafts or would i have to switch the entire carrier over? Thanks and sorry if i posted in the wrong section.

I changed from a 27 spline in my 93 to 29 spline alloy shafts, but I was regearing and went with a Detroit locker so I didn't have to get a new carrier. I've heard some guys talk about clearancing the carrier and just changing the spiders, but I don't know if they knew what they were talking about, but it maybe worth looking into.
