Default 8.25 d shaft and 35 d shaft??

Okay folks, some of you have read my threads on the disc brake mod I am doing on one of my 8.25 axles. Everything is going coming along nicely but, there is one part of this that I missed.

So this leads me to the drive driveshaft question. There is no way that the D35 shaft will work? Is that correct? My XJ is lifted 6" now so would that make any difference with the lenght? In other words will that help me out?

I do have a brand new SYE and when the axle is ready to go in it may be the best time to get it all done at once but, I don't want my XJ down to long..

The D35 has a shorter pinion therefore a longer driveshaft. It also depends on the transfer case used. I have a DS from an '89 with the 242Tcase+D35 and it is about 2 1/4 inches longer than my DS from my '99 with 231/8.25.

ANYWAYS, with 6 inches of lift it *may* work, but I believe you'll be quite likely to bottom out the splines.

I am going to buy a driveshaft for the 8.25 and use that until I get around to installing the SYE. Thanks for the information..

Hmmm, is the yoke any different? Any idea how much travel the yoke has before it would bottom out?
