8.25 centre line
where exactly is the center line of an 8.25? how do you experts choose where it is?
I've cut off my spring perches and now want to weld on my new anti-wrap perches so my pinion is about 4 degrees up.
Do I level the yoke then turn the housing up 4 degrees and then put my perches level?
I'm probably over thinking this aren't I?

No one?
I've seen Lots of picture of guys doing it just not how they figured out the proper angle. I know you all just didn't eyeball it.

You mount for axle under the Jeep loosely measure from the outside of the perch to the outside of the axle and make it even then snug the u bolts put the tires on put it on the ground adjust pinion angle with a jack and tack weld the perches then pull the axle out and weld it all up

I want to have it so I take old axle out and put new axle in and take it for a test drive in under 2 hours.
I see pictures of the welded up and painted axle on jack stands all the time.
My rig is a DD. I have to take the axle to the welders. I don't have a shop.
I did it this way so I wouldn't have to do it that way.
I seriously can't believe there are not 20 answers to this thread but some guy buying a CAI from the wreckers and saying it's the best mod anyone can buy gets 3 pages.

And actually it is. There are guys that do it all the time. just need a tape measure and a degree finder.
I just want to know what they use as a center line to "Degree" the axle.
As for shimming it. The shims cost the same as the anti wrap perches. Actually more with shipping. I was going to move the shock mounts anyways. After you twist the axle the shocks get close to binding on the left side. They also twist the rubber isolators. Move them up out of the way of obstacles and eliminate twist. Whats 4 more weld beads? I'm a little old school. Do it right do it once.

I would say using a degree wheel on yoke would get you 0 degrees then raise 4 degrees and weld .Knowing what degree it was to begin with would help...then add 4....

I use it alot in carpentry actually.
I'm just going to have to assume the yoke is 0° and then rotate it on the stands to 4° then level the perches and weld.
HOWEVER looking under the XJ now the yoke is NOT level with the ground.
This is why I want someone who has done this before to chime in.

No. I just got a smokin deal (Back in November last year) on an 8.25 with 4:11s and an Eaton Detroit LSD in it. Spent the winter cleaning it up getting the perches and the shock mounts and grafting on the Liberty disc brakes I got for it. All cleaned up and ready to go on vehicle after I weld on the perches, shock mounts and fresh paint.
