Default 784 injector rough cold start

So this past weekend I installed my set of 784 injectors and did the reset procedure, all went well minus 2 of the electrical plug "locks" busted off due to being brittle, nothing major or connection inhibiting.

Anyways since the install, on a cold start it runs and idles pretty rough, which it never used to do, and after a few revs or a minute of driving it becomes non existent and runs and idles better than it used to.

At first I thought it was just part of the relearn process for the computer system but after at least 20+ starts it hasn't changed a bit, and to be honest it starting to **** me off lol.

Anyone had a similar issue, or any ideas as far as stupid easy stuff to look at?

I fiddled with the injectors ( spun them and made sure the connections were tight and not right up against anything), also the last time it was doing it, and I did manage to pop a cel, I'm going to get it checked in a bit here but figured I'd get the ball rolling here anyhow.

Other things to consider, everything is "tuned up" aka good plugs, wires, ect....so everything isn't old as the dirt..I have 2 brand new o2 sensors which I installed after the injectors (not the problem, nor did I have issues, they were just due at 134,000)

Also I can't detect any gas leaks, and as I said, it seems to run fine after its been running.

Any tips or ideas are appreciated! Thanks

As an update, apparently I never got the memo that advance auto here closes at 8 not 9 lol, so the code will have to wait until tomorrow.

Just to be on the safe side, pull your #6 plug and see if it's fouled out. This happened to me when i did the swap (plugs were 2 months old when i swapped in the 784's). This is a rare thing to have happen, but you and I are not the only ones to have it happen. I'm willing to bet the code will come back as a misfire on #6.

I was thinking it could be something along those lines too, the code has me intrigued but I had to take my wife to the "walk in" clinic as apparently she has a bad sinus/ear infection, and as stated had my times wrong.

Glad to see there's been some other odd happenings with the swap though, thanks, and I'll post up after I get that code read!

Yeah p0306 cylinder 6 misfire lol.

That's pretty odd, cleared the code and it didn't come back, I did however leave with a new set of plugs in hand.

Guess I'll have to update when I get them in this weekend!

Anyone have any guess on why this happens?

That's really interesting...

Well, I don't know why it chooses that particular cylinder, but I mean you are putting higher flow injectors in so it will be putting more fuel out.

Did you reset the PCM when you did the swap, by holding the battery cables together for 30 seconds?

Alright I couldn't wait till the weekend and just swapped out the plugs, #6 looked the worst out of them all but nothing that concerned me a bit, they all still look 100% usable and have acceptable gap.

Started it up and it was still rough until it warmed up a bit.

Any other ideas?

It'll be a little rough for the first 20-40 starts as it relearns the air/fuel trim settings. Give it that break in period and then report back.

You said you broke 2 of the plastic locks. Was one of them #6?

Yeah, I'm gonna give it more time (its been at least 20 starts by now) started up a few hours after again and it ran great including the problem area I'm complaining about, the plugs made a noticeable difference in the general running quality as well.

6 was a broken clip, but if it wasn't making a connection I'd have a dead cylinder and I'm sure I'd notice it when I'm out driving.

The clips are more if an extra precaution for locking the connections on. As long as it's seated nicr and tight it won't come off on it's own.

Glad to hear it's better!

As an update, most of that initial roughness has gone away, I still get a little bit every now and again, but I don't feel it has anything to do with the swap at this point.

Bottom line, be patient with the relearn process lol.

Thanks to all who posted.
