Default 5.3 axle swap recommendations?

Hey all I did a quick search and didn’t get quite the info I was looking for.

I just picked up my Lm7 5.3 from the machine shop that was being prepped for a drag build but sold the car and left with a ready to build block so I’m gonna toss it in my Xj.

its going to be a iron 5.3 with a 4l60e transmission and was hopping to stick with the NP231

Motor will be very mild maybe 300/350 hp

my question is should I go to one ton axles or the Dana 44?

the Jeep will see off-road use mostly overland so it will be weighed down more then usual with gear from time to time. But for the majority of its life it will get daily duty on the road.

thanks for any input I’m 100% clueless when it comes to axle swaps.

What year and model Jeep do you have now, what axles are in it, and what size tires do you plan on running?

300 horse is what like 50% morepower than the 4.0

I'd probly find a wrecked dodge pickup preferably 3/4ton to get the dana60 70 combo I'd probly also run the tcase out of this. I think its 241 hd.
3.55 410 gears are common in these trucks nd will work well at the 300hp level. . I'd choose 410 if possible 3.55 wouldn't be a deal breaker

Torque curve isn't much different between the 5.3 and 4L. 5.3 burns even more fuel. But hey, might as well throw twin turbos on the LS and try to run 8's at the track in a Cherokee with solid axles. lol

Dana 44 rear axle is plenty adequate. Tons are over kill unless you have a dedicated rock buggy
