Default 4x4 conversion

I have a 97 cherokee sport.. do i need a matching 4x4 model to convert my 2wd to 4wd? Help need some advice

you need the 4wd transmission, 231 t-case, both driveshafts, transfercase linkage and dont forget the dana30 i believe that is it.

Can i get all that off a doner xj.. same year model or older? What about computer, vacuum lines???

for a direct swapin transmission you would want a 97 transmission... i believe 91-96 requires splicing in a new connector. but here is the link http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970 as long as the transfercase and axle come from a 91-99 cherokee you wont have to worry about vaccuum lines.

you also wont need to worry about the tcu or ecm you can use a 99-01 transmission but it requires alot more work for 99-01 transmissions you can go two routes build a circuit as described or swap over the spped sensor tone ring and harness's. its a pita

Nope as long as you use parts from the same generation as your xj everything will bolt right in
