Default 4.5 inch lift to 5.5 lift???

Ok so I have a 4.5 inch lift. New coils in the front and a crappy aal in the rear. Ik I can fit 33's with my trimmed fenders but I want to add just 1 inch more of lift for a little more clearance. I figured 4.5 inch leafs in the rear with a 1 inch shackle. And in the front 4.5 inch coils and a 1 inch spacer. What else would I need to do? Would I need all new shocks?

depends one how hardcore of wheeling you do. I went from a 3 inch to 4.5 doing exactly as you are purposing. i didnt change the shocks and its been fine mind you i dont do anything to crazy..... try and find the specs on whatever shocks you have sometimes they will say what the tolerances are

I do a lot of offroading. I think the shocks would be fine it's only an inch and they already seem big to me. Did you have any other problems?

if you really off road the shocks wont be fine. U will be bottoming or over extending them out when flexing. which will break them sooner or later get new shocks. Only about 200$

Alright, do I need to do anything to my brake lines or t-case? My lines have been adjusted for the 4.5 lift and I dropped my t-case about an inch already

are your shocks made for a 4.5" lift? and you want to keep the same ones for a 5.5" lift?

i say you'll be fine, i bought a set of replacement shocks for $70 that came off of an RE lift, and they were the same exact size as the shocks that came with my 5.5" RE lift.

i say run it

At 5.5" lift you need to consider

Shock length
Brakeline length - probably need longer lines
Steering and trackbar - not sure what you've got going on down there
Driveshaft vibes - you should be ok with your t-case drop, but it might be time for an SYE
Control arm angles - long arms or drop brackets

i'd be most worried about an SYE. if everything else was made for the 4.5" lift i dont see why it wouldnt be good for another 1"

So an SYE and control arm drop kit sound like the only thing I'll need. Any other ideas?

I am doing this same thing...well the rear is already at 5.5", but I am doing the front tomorrow to level it out. You will need extended sway bar discos or just adjust yours, possibly a drop pitman arm, an SYE if you want to do it right, Adjustable CA's if you don't have any or CAD brackets or LA's(I am installing CAD brackets tomorrow, so check my build thread in a little and I will tell you how they work out). If you go one of those last two routes you will have much more droop, so I would test out the flex and see whether the brake lines serve as limiting straps and try removing shocks to see how much lower your axle will drop to see how long of shocks are needed. Also I am going to get some 97 chevy 1500 2wd front brake lines which are cheap and I hear are good for 7+ inches of lift.

Well that sounds good. I'll check out your build and see how it's done.

i have a 92 laredo, she had a 3.5 RE lift. i put in 2" pucks in the front & shackles in the rear. went with 4.5 shocks & used a brake line for a YJ in the rear & just moved the front ones down as low on the frame as i could using self tapping screws. i have 33's with very very little fender trimming. i have 1/2" transfer drop & no vibrations & no sye. the only issue i have is that the trac bar in the front goes out 2 times a year. $35 part 15 minute replacement time. i have just ordered a 6.5" extreme duty kit from RC. i do some pretty hard wheeling in the mud & a lot of flexing without much breakage. but the road manners suck. i also, removed the rear anti sway bar. no noticeable difference unless i have 500+ pounds in the back storage area. try to remember that all of these rigs were hand assembled & not 2 are perfectly alike.

Well I guess I'll just have to take it step by step then.
