Default 4.0 swap into 84 with 2.5

Hello all,

I currently have a 84’ 2 door that needs a heart transplant the 2.5Lhas a hole in it and I’m trying to put in a 4.0L.

I’ve narrowed down my issues which are;

• fitment ( from firewall to radiator)

• wiring (the 4.0L is from a 99’)

• mounting (84’ were only meant to have 2.5L but does not mean we can break the barrier and persevere!!!!!!)

if anyone catches this, pls message me ASAP!!!

If your drivetrain is out yet post some photos of the engine bay. I've done a few 86 2.5/2.8 to 4.0 swaps now and might be able to help you out.

Yeah, you can do it. But you will need a complete engine and tranny and preferably tcase out of a donor vehicle. Also you will have to change the hood, or at least the latches as well as the front header cross piece. Good luck

I have not pulled the block and tranny yet, but I have

noticed that the front end is like 3.5 or 4 in shorter

also I am switching from manual to automatic.
