Default 37s on 88 XJ?

I just got some 37" MTRs to put on my 88 XJ would the stock axles hold up to running them?

No way, you'll break that axle fast. Look into some bigger axles.

Then you definitely shouldn't use the D35(according to your bio). Look into the Dana 60.

if you dont know what you need then you are not ready to run 37" tires. do a ton of research and find out what you need to do this right.

probably 44/9 or 44/60 with chromos, lockouts, lockers, 5.13's, and plenty of fab and a whole new suspension
it is possible to over-beef the D30 and run 4.88's. but like I said if you dont know what you need to make it work you are not ready to run 37's

ok i run large tires on the d30/5 and its all in how you wheel. if your a throttle happy kinda guy . you bust emm , if your easy going like me. you'll be just fine. but you will certainly want gears. any one whos ever broke an axle was being way to hard on it . i dont beat my rig at all. and i never have breakages.

so its really all in how you wheel. snow bat man runs a d30 front and rear in his snow rig and it works just fine. he has a d30 for his rear steering. so lot of its opinion and some is how do you wheel.

i'm putting 38's in my axles and gear i know i'll be fine. easy on the gas and dont wheel hop.

yeah. plus stock axles with 3.55 ratio will barely be able to turn those 37's. your mileage will flop and your engine will cry
sell those tires for axle money

Why would he need lockouts, lockers and new suspension just to run 37s?

Might as well upgrade for your needs while you are there. Think that what he means.
