Ok.........so now I've got this 90 Cherokee that I'd like to lift about 3". However, the OE coils and leafs are sagging noticeably. After searching several websites and parts stores, I figured it'd cost me about $580 to replace the stock springs and shocks, and an additional $180 to $350 for a 3" lift depending on which style I get.
On the other hand, I found a setup that consists of 3" taller coils, 3" taller leafs, 3" longer shocks and new U-bolts for around $600.00 shipped. For just a tad more, I can also get drop control arms.
My question is, has anyone tried this type of lift and does it work well?

What brand and lift kit are you actually looking at? That'd help us give a better response.
Better kits will come with new coils and leaf springs. My XJ started with a Rubicon Express RE6010 Super-Flex 3.5" lift kit. It comes with an add-a-leaf for the rear and probably cost $700 or so. The RE6030 3.5" lift comes will new leaf springs too but it'll probably cost around $1000.

Just did my 3in RC lift. You'll need, new leafs, coils, shocks, ubolts, longer track bar, sway bar discos, and longer brake lines in the front couldn't hurt. Look at rubicon express lifts there pricey but good.

I'm running the 3" lift with full leaf pack from Iron Rock Off Road for about $600 - . They have a discount code in the Jeep magazines to make it even sweeter. I'm really happy with it. Installed with no problems. I would suggest 1" shackles and extended brake lines though.

Ok folks..........I'm not looking to get some "super flex" offroad lift kit. More than anything else, I just want the "lift" part. I'm sure most everyone will agree that the stock ride height looks kinda silly. One kit I'm looking at is put out by Zone Offroad Products which includes: front coil springs, rear leaf springs, 4 shocks and new U-bolts for $510 and looks like this......

The other kit I'm looking at is put out by Jeepers Creepers which includes: front coil springs, front lower control arms, sway bar drop brackets, rear leaf springs, rear U-bolts and 4 N2.0 series shocks for $609 and looks like this.......

For a 3" lift...
You don't NEED sway bar discos (but they are definitely recommended if you want to flex.
You don't NEED a longer rear brake hose, but again, if you plan to flex it out, you will definitely want to consider it, or risk tearing it in half. You can drive it normally with the stock hose, it's only risky when the suspension is extended out.
You don't NEED new LCA's, but without them, your caster angle will be off, which is one of the things that can cause death wobble. Shimming the existing LCA's will help, but you can only go so far.
You don't NEED a new track bar... well, you might, actually. I did. Axle was off center after the lift.
I bought the Rough Country 3" kit with full leaf packs. I don't do hard core off roading, just some easy trails, and it's my daily driver... no complaints at all, here.
The RC kit and JKS track bar I bought probably brought my total to around $700, and the only other things I really need to get before I feel like I'm finished are quick discos and a longer rear brake hose.

If you are just going to get that, call RC and tell them you are a member of this forum and they will give you a 10% discount. That's how I got mine. I got them to replace my stock suspension cuz the originals were shot when I bought it. It's my DD, rides a little stiff but no biggie.

Where do I find this track bar you speak of? I plan on replacing most of the steering components anyway since all the tie rod ends have WAY too much play in them for my taste. It looks like I need 3 tie rod ends (1 of which is on the drag link, the drag link and possibly a new steering damper. It's hard for me to tell with this being my first jeep and all but, it feels like there's no resistance in the damper at all.
