Anyone swap their 4.0 for a Chevy 5.3 in Southern Arizona? What did you do for cooling? How were your temps?

 

I'm pretty sure swapping out a 4.0 is punishable by death in the US

 

I'm building an XJ from scratch pretty much, it's gonna have a 7" lift on 37" tires and the stock 4.0 isn't gonna cut it, my issue is that I live in Southern Arizona and it gets hot as hell here and I'm wondering if an all aluminum triple core radiator will keep a 5.3 cool enough.

 

I wouldn't be so worried about cooling capacity. Fitment would be your toughest obstacle, considering the 5.3's big ol' plastic fan and the Cheorkee's compact engine bay. You'd probably want to contact Advance Adapters or Motion Raceworks. LS motors are excellent but a stock 4.8 or 5.3 doesn't offer much over the 4L after the hefty price tag of swapping the entire powertrain. Winder towing in So. Utah uses a 4L Jeep to rescue GM Small Block and Ford V8 trucks 24/7. A guy on YouTube just spent the last year and $16K swapping a 4.8 into a TJ and it cant even do a burnout. lol

 

My intention was to buy a Moshimoto triple core radiator and their accompanying shroud and fans and using that, also like I said above its gonna be a monster of a Cherokee and 300hp is better than 190hp on 37s any day, that and admittedly I want the sound of a V8 as well, don't get me wrong the 4.0 sounds great with the right muffler, but the guy I bought this project from was building it for King of the Hammers and I wanna continue along that road to a certain extent.
