Hey All,

I'm looking to lift my jeep & put some bigger tires on it. I've always wanted to, and finally have the funds to do so. I'm honestly going to do it mainly for looks. This thing will be my everyday driver, except for the trip up north (michigan term) every few weeks to do a little offroading.

From what I've seen i think i want to go 3.5 inch lift & 31 inch tires. Can you guys please post some pics of legit 3.5 inches of lift & 31 inch tires? I want a suspension lift, no pucks or spacers.

Thanks for the links, but the majority of them seem to be 3in or 4.5 inches. I have caught a couple that are 3.5in lift with 31's, and they seem to look best to me. Please keep pictures coming, along with the links if they are solid.

Also trying to avoid fender flares, and trimming for now.

If you apply any pucks, they must be official NHL or nothing.
Just don't tell where you stuck em.
3 to 4 inch will be very well for 31's. Bset to go with spring lifts.
As an aside I run a 1.25 Spydertrax backspacer to prevent rubbing the lower control arms at full turn. You can get same effect by changing rims with more backspacing.
Also check your brakes flexlines front and rear at full droop to insure your not pulling and stressing them, remount terminations or get longer flex line if they are tight.
You do realize that 31's are a starting point. You will be looking for a way to stuff 33's and 35's as next goals.
Try Gojeep.com for some examples of where to use the pucks. They will do well for bumpstops but not for lift on your XJ.

What exactly do you mean/did with the 1.25 backspacer?

I figured I would have to check the break lines to make sure I wasn't stressing them. What other things would I need to do other than the lift kit and bigger wheels? Is it bolt on and go for the most part?

I don't think I will go any bigger. Like I said, I'm mainly doing it for looks.

 

He used the 1.25 spacer to give the wheels less backspace. I personally got new wheels. I just got a Rubicon express 3.5 lift from seriousoffroad. You will need a new track bar or relocate the old one. You can call Frank at seriousoffroad and he will set you up with everything you need/want.

This is the same thing I *think* I want to do with my 2001 Limited, just for a better stance, and a more aggressive look. Not building a rock crawler or anything fancy, just my daily driver. From everything I have read though it sounds like the OP may need to also consider a Slip Yoke Eliminator, or a transfer case drop to lower the angle of the rear drive shaft to prevent vibration.

Not to hijack the thread but what's the general opinion on keeping stock rims and tires with a 3 to 3.5 inch lift? Does it make the tires look tiny? The 31's in peep's pics look like they're almost stuffed in there on the uncut Jeep.

I have 16 inch alloys and P225/75R16 104S Kelly Safari ATR's on mine right now and the truck looks pretty good, I just wish I could lift it some without dropping a $1000 on doing so. If I cheap out and do a 3 inch lift with spring spacers and extended shackles / add a leaf kit, does that also require relocating or extending brake flex lines or a SYE?

no. You can run a 3 inch lift with nothing else done. that 3.5-4" mark is where things generally start making noises/feelings when they shouldnt.

Wheel backspacing is personal preference if youre just DD'ing it. Want the wider (read: stuffed) look? Get 3.75bs rims. The black jeep w/ cut fenders is running the same size wheels and tires size as the tan one with no trimming.

 

be forewarned, once you lift it....its a slippery slope.

(do most folks think a 2 or 3 inch lift is honestly a waste of time because you can barely see the truck is lifted, or is there a good percentage of owners who do a 2 or 3 inch lift purely for a better look? I dont want to be *that guy* on the block with just a itty bitty lift kit that I might as well have not bothered with.
