Default 2001 xj SYE and shims

I have a 2001 xj with a np231 transfer case and a SYE freshly installed, using the front drive shaft in the rear from a junk hard and rebuilt the bearing and replaced the u joint. But I found out I needed to adjust my pinion angle. I'm getting 13.5 on the DS and 3° on the yoke. But is a 8° shim to big for a 3 inch rough country lift?? Ive seen others use 2-4° shims on 3 inches. Had I measured wrong or something? Or it's that Normal? (I'm using a digital angle gauge)

Seems a little much... So you're measuring across the flat surface of the yolk ? If the measurements are correct it sounds like the springs are almost dead flat... Where did the 3 inches of lift come from ??

I can take a picture here soon, but I have an add a leaf in the rear. I think I might not be on level ground I'll re do it somewhere flater, And I did measure the yolk angle from the flat side of the yolk after adjusting my drive shaft so it was facing down

Now that I look at it more I think the yoke might have a slight difference in angle due to the brackets I used to put the drive shaft on. So I could add them in average them and see what numbers I get

So I'm getting like -9° so I would need like a 7° shim? Still don't seem right

First I have to say that the driveline angle is not really relevant. Here is how to figure it out. Take the measurement of the face of the driveline yoke. then loosen up your U bolts enough so you can put a jack under the pinion and jack it up until you get a straight shot down the driveline to the pinion. Then measure the face of the pinion yoke and subtract the first from the second. Now just looking at it, seat of the pants guess is you need a 4° shim. 8° would be too much
