When you say you recommend the new springs, retainers, and keepers is that the kind of recommendation that means I need too? Cuz I did a quick search and they are kind of expensive
But I also don't want to trash my engine

Do the Yella Terra 1.7 roller rockers and stock springs for now. If you don't like them or want to do more later, cam, springs, head, etc, you can always resale them as they do have a value even used.

Yes they "need to be done" acording to cam manufacturers (they know more then me) some people run stock springs with a large cam, but the springs are not made for that kinf of use... you could pick a slightly more mild cam that does not require them to be changed.

the rockers are a good choice for simplicity sake.... IDK If I would run them with a large cam (would have to read up about them and peoples experiences ect) but I don't see it being a problem as long as the valve has room to move the distance at higher RPM.

I would weight the cost/benifit/amount of work ratio for your needs/wants. a cam is a TON more work then rockers...

Theses are 1.6:1 ratio, same as stock.

You want the YT6628A which are the 1.7:1 ratio like these

The problem is that on the 2001, the cam is held in place by a 'cam retaining plate' and there are no easily available cam blanks for the aftermarket to 'regrind' to a performance cam spec. The only option is to convert and use an earlier style cam which uses a pin and spring and new cam cover to locate the cam. These earlier cams are the ones available reground to perf specs.

So the real issue is is that there are no new style perf cams available, hence why 1.7 ratio roller rockers is the option. They incr the lift about 0.025" and leave the duration as stock so as to act friendly with the map sensor based ECU system.

So I got the 1.7 YT roller rockers and I can't wait to put them in this weekend.

Im now thinking a cam as well haha but we'll see after I install them.

If so, any reccomendations for a cam that would compliment the 1.7's

The head, intake manifold and throttle body are all flow restricting. And if you have an AUTO, the trans will shift at 4800-4900rpm so there is no point in building/or camming an engine to make more power at a higher rpm range. This is why the stock cams with the 1.7 roller rockers are near ideal with stock head and intake maniflod.
