2000 XJ Camshaft upgrade
Good evening everyone, I知 new here and have begun a full rebuild on a 2000 Xj sport. I知 getting ready to send the block and head off to a local machine shop for a simple hone and polish since its in pretty good shape. I知 looking to do some mild mods right now like a cam, but I can稚 find a cam in stock that will fit my year. Apparently in 2000 Jeep changed something that required a different cam? I found a new cam on facebook marketplace with lifters. Comp cam part 68-200-4 with lifters.
Can anyone tell me if this will fit my engine/ why or why not?
Thank you in advance

There is a way to put a older year cam in . I was reading a build that they adapted a older year cam in a newer block . maybe some one here can tall you how it is done .
Okay, so I called Chad and he was beyond helpful. He ran the numbers on the cam 68-200-4 and said it would fit perfectly and not give me any trouble. Seems like a really knowledgeable guy, so I知 going to trust him. Everything only says it won稚 fit but I知 willing to try it if he feels confident on it.
I値l update once I get the motor back from my machine shop and start assembly

If the cam you get has the pin and spring in the front, you need the timing chain cover from a pre 2000 model because the pin rides against a dimple in the cover. It will physically fit in the block but the 2000-2001 cams are held in differently and thus do not have the pin and spring so they can't fit in older models
