Hello all,
i recently put a hole in the side of my engine at 210,000...and i have the opportunity to get another 4.0 out of a 2000 grand Cherokee with 15,000 miles on it so my question is can i just drop in that engine with all the accessories or do i have to switch all my Cherokee stuff over to that block....

I have never confirmed this, but I have heard from a few people that the grand cherokee 4.0L has different mounting bosses for the motor mounts and they will not interchange. I wouldn't just go "slappin it in" without confirming or you may end up with an engine you can't use and an empty engine bay and wallet.
Just lookin out
I bet ol blue on here would know. He seems to be pretty grand cherokee savy.

so it will work? the mounts can be swapped... i no that the grands have a bigger alt and different layout but...idk if it will fit if it does i would love not to have to switch it all over
Certainly the block is the same and therefor has the same bolt holes for the Cherokee motor mounts. Everything else is easy,..just swap over any sensor or accessory from the cherokee onto the Grand engine.

Although they are both 4.0L I6, the blocks are very different. One uses metric bolts along with a couple standards. The other uses standards with one metric bolt. The accessory locations differ significantly. In fact we know of only two people who have made this swap. One did significant grinding on the block to make it work. The other fabbed his own accessory brackets to make it work. We sell the engine brackets and mounts for this swap. If you decide to do this, we know a whole lot of XJ owners who would appreciate a swap thread.
Edit: it does not work to use the engine brackets from the WJ in the XJ. The engine position relative to the motor mount (aka "frame-side") position differs.
