2000 cherokee emptying bank
hey guys
so as the title says... i need help!
bought an 00' with a knocking engine. 202,960 miles. tare it out, pull it down. New over haul kit, crank, cam, rods, pistons, lifters, gaskets, seals, water pump, t stat, hoses, plenty of paint, etc etc...
get it running... dash Odometer says "No Bus" and no gauges. research and screw with it for 2 days... 8hr a day approx. find that if i wiggle the ecm connector, Rear gray one going into the harness wich then goes to the cab. i can get the "no bus" away and gauges back... for the time being. ALSO when ever it feels like it, it will stall out throwing codes for 1,2,3, ignition failure. and the gauges will work.. stop working.. etc. etc. when ever it wants.
SO,
replace ECM with known good. same thing happens. "No bus" when it wants to... randumbly stalling out when it wants to.
what do i do next? replace the entire harness? i have access to one from a 1999 with a distributor... but the harness to the cab should be the same? correct? or just take the engine harness, ecm, cab harness, distributor set up. and revoke Coil on plug privileges and make it simple again?
thanks guys hope someone can help!

have you tried checking all the grounds on the harness? Try going through it with a Power Probe III- it allows you to send a ground signal or a 12v with a push of a button to anywhere you can reach with the probe needle. I know this tool is a bit spendy ($150 or so) but it cost less than all the time you spend with jump wires and guess work. It's my most borrowed tool I got. Also check for wire abrasions going through the firewall on those wires and check the contacts at the plug and fuse box. Once again use the PP3 to put in the plugs than re-create the problem, listen to see if the signal tone sounds stuttery. If this doesn't work try a buddy with a fresh second set of eyes- it's amaizing how well that seems to work and makes a bad situation sorta fun. GOOD LUCK and lemme know the out come.
went on a short trip with it. 40 miles approx. both ways. and both ways the cel came on... Crankshaft/camshaft sensor fault and it stalled 1 time.
so.. i guess 70$ for the cps. and 43 for the cam. ps.
went over all the grounds with a multimeter. to battery. all were .01 ohm's resistance. and i moved the fender grounds by the ecm. to the ecm screw just to try something diffrent there. the rear engine ground strap broke. but the engine's still .01 ohms to - battery post.
also. whats the deal with the windows... go to replace the module, wiggling the wires and everything works. but now i cant find it to not work... this things wired worse then a VW... lol
