2000-2001 np242 experiences with 2-4" lift

Hi. Just want to get some input from members who have lifted their 2000-2001 Cherokees with the np242 transfer case. The front axle, from what I've researched, is a low pinion dana 30 on all 2000 & 2001 year Cherokees. My 2000 has the chrysler 8.25 rear.
I'm looking into lift. I want to go around 3". Just wanted to know what experiences other people have had. I am concerned about ride quality/on road handling. Also would like to know if you did a t-case drop, sye, or nothing at all.

I have a 2000 lifted to 4.5" with the LP D30. It's fine for the type of off roading I do. I did do a hack'n tap with a front driveshaft now on the rear.
3" MAY not need it. Each jeep is different.
I know a HP D30 is what all the other XJ's use but look at how many wranglers and ZJ/WJ's that they produced with LP D30s. There is only a couple inches difference in the driveshaft height. If the HP was the only way to go the Wranglers would be buying up every HP D30 they could get their hands on and the price on them would be outrageous.
I say leave it till a really good deal on an HP comes along.

At 3 inches you may or may not need a SYE it just depends. Do not do a T case drop, it will just cover up the problem and you will run into more expensive problems down the road. My friend did it and wished he never had, plus you lose clearance you just lifted your Jeep for anyways.

I did a 3.5" lift with a 01 XJ AW4, NP242, C8.25.
That combo has the shortest rear driveline in a XJ, resulting in a steeper angle and more vibration prone after a lift. Even with a 3" I would highly recommend a SYE, CV rear shaft & rear spring shims.
I installed a SYE at the same time I did my lift, in my mind It is always needed. The stock design is not ideal in the first place.

I did a 2" Rough Country lift. Only problem I had was I broke 3 pairs of sway bar end links till I upgraded. I heard after 3" you need to drop the transfer case.

thanks for every ones input. I decided on OME; either 2.5 or 3.5. I'm thinking 3.5 and hack-n-tap if needed. I was originally scared of doing the hack-n-tap, but after reading some how-to's I think I can handle it.
I'm subbed on this one. I'm installing my 2.5" OME this weekend. I have vibrations on my saggy stock setup, or -1.5" lift as I light to call it. I'm planing to change rear universal joints to see if that helps, but it may take another weekend to make it that far.

Does anyone have the part number for the correct SYE for a 2001 XJ with the NP242? I have been looking for one and all the part numbers only go thru the early 90's... I am doing a 4.5" lift on my 2001 XJ and need to get one before I start lifting it.

I have a 2001 with the NP242 and I used Iron Rock Offroads Hack n Tap SYE. Works great.
2x , this is the way to go for the 242 tc, w/ a new or rebuilt cv ds the correct length. the other option is high dollar. btw, dont do a tc drop , its just a band aid that will cause other issues.
