Default 2 6Volt batteries? Someon help me before I blow something up.

Hey guys, I was just complaining to a coworker that I ordered two batteries and only only one showed up so far. Turns out he has 2 brand new 6volt yellow tops and has no clue what to do with them. If I wired them in series (+-,-+), then wired them in parallel to another 12v YT would all be ok? I ask because the deal on the 2 6volt's is as good as it gets(free).

That's how I was thinking about wiring them. The batteries are free so I could sell the 2nd 12V when it gets here. What are the possible problems with this setup?

"The main advantage of using two 6 volt batteries connected in series is long life. They generally last about two times longer than 12 volt batteries. This is because 6 volt batteries have bigger and thicker plates that can better withstand the effects of deep cycling." Thats what an rv guy says. Don't know about optimas though...

the only problem is packaging, two 6's will probably take up more room than one 12

I have plenty of room since I pulled the stock airbox. Since these 6v are free, I think it's worth the lose of space. Guess I'll be putting the other battery on Craigslist.

+1 what xjsnake posted. If you're going to go with the 3 batteries don't forget an isolator so your alt doesn't cook itself.

This is the info I need, why would I need and isolator for a 12v and 2 6v but not for 2 12v?
