I am thinking about buying a Cherokee with a 2.5 l 4 cylinder but it has a bad trans, I have a 4.0 and auto trans but wondering how hard is it to Swap the engine and transmission into the 4cylinder Cherokee. if its too difficult will just keep looking for something else that already has a 4.0, it would be nice to have the 4.10 gears already in the axles though. what are your thoughts?

 

What is your skillset?

Ever removed and replaced an engine? Done electrical wiring?

 

I have not but my cousin is a mechanic and will be helping me on all of it and he has done engine swaps before, I am very mechanically inclined and work as an electronics tech and have done quite a bit on my own vehicles just not an engine swap. we have been working on my 87 cherokee and found that the floors are in worse shape than we want to mess with so looking for another vehicle to take its place.
