Alright I caved… here’s a new thread (sorry) with my exact setup praying I can get some definitive answers without all the guessing!
lifting my 2001 2.5 inches via a DPG OME lift.
He says to stick to stock wheels if I wanna run a 30x9.5 r15 tire or else I’ll need to trim.
but I’ve seen very similar setups with after market wheels with backspacing and this tire or an inch bigger tire with bumper end cap trimming at most. Which I’m okay with. But nervous to risk having to do fenders!
To do this I wanted to find the closest wheel to stock backspacing. Looks like my only options are 3.75” (basically every aftermarket wheel) or 1 4” one on quadratec (the Baja extreme)
id like to keep my stock flares and not have to trim metal, I can always tune bumpstops, but would like to keep as much up travel as possible!
any pics of 2.5 lifts with 15x8 (or 15x7?) 3.75 backspacing wheels hugely appreciated! Or anyone with experience here. Or near stock after markets I might be missing.
Engine: 4.3L with headers and full 3" exhaust system
Stock is 5.5" back space. There are plenty of newer wheel designs that have that much back spacing. Bear in mind that by moving the wheel out, it is more likely to contact the fender flare when stuffed
"Stock is 5.5" back space."
5.25"? At least that's the b/s on the OEM steel rims on my'96.
235/75R15's on 15x7 rims at 4.25" b/s with a 2" lift with no problems so far. Use to hit the lca's on stock rims. Next set of tires will be 30's but with no flares. Seems to me you should have no issues but then DPG are pretty reputable people.
first pic was right after lift. About 2in with 15x7 4in bs wheels 30x9.5 grabber at/x.
I removed rear sway bar and didn't have any issues in the rear for the most part. Maybe extreme flexing would rub cause my bumpstops fell out. Front rubbed when disconnected. I have since installed flat flares with the same amount of lift and the rubbing issue is gone.
I've run this size tire P255/70R16 on 3 different XJ's.
- 2000 with a 1" lift.
- 2001 with a 3" lift.
- 1999 with a 3.5" lift.
I'll get some slight rubbing, when turning lockout to lockout. It was the largest size tire I could put under the XJ & still be able to put a full size spare in the back, with out having to modify anything. It's a 30" tire, plus/minus depending on the manufacturer. In this picture below, the front has about / almost a 2" lift. I was waiting for my 1" spacers to arrive.
Here it is on my 1999 Orvis XJ.
I'm about to pull the trigger on the same lift from DPG. I would love to see a pic of the rear shackle or maybe you could just comment on the angle of the rear shackle. I'm wondering if shackle relocation brackets would be beneficial.
Since everyone likes pictures, here's one of my factory shackle.
I’m away from my Jeep for the rest of the week, but Dirk is a great resource for technical questions. I used a shop for this lift because I was not equipped to handle my seized hardware (apparently almost every single thing needed to be burned/drilled).
that looks a lot like my angle from what I can remember.. but I’m not sure what length shackles you’re planning on running. Dirk strictly advised against longer shackles and especially blocks for the reasons we’ve all likely heard, and re-location brackets didn’t come up in our conversation.
only thing I noticed that wasn’t included in this kit compared to others were control arms. This lift leaves very little to no wiggle room for your stockers if you’re running them. Hope that helps!
