Default 1992 Cherokee stand alone for automatic transmission?

I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee with the aw4 automatic transmission. I pulled the body off and converted it to a carbureted engine. Runs great no issues. However in doing so I have to shift my gears manually... I’m wanting to see if anyone has done a stand alone computer to remedy this and if so what did you use. I’m sure I will need a tv cable, but what else. I took all the elections off as I put a 1948 f1 body back on it. Thanks for any information..

The pre-97 XJ AW4 TCM is a stand alone computer

I think all you need is the speed sensor on the trans and a TPS (you may need a MAF sensor too)

wouldnt you need to rig those sensors anyway for any stand alone computer ?

free download the '95 FSM from cruiser54 website, it gives an excellent description of how the TCM controls the AW4

the 94-96 TCM is the same part num, and does not intereact with the PCM

dont know about pre 94, and 97 and later do have some level of communication with the PCM

I just had a quick look and all you will have to do is rig up a TPS, (and electric brake switch to unlock torque convertor), the vehicle speed and trans speed sensor should already be present in your AW4 or TX case

Let us know how you go, I had/have plans to install an AW4 in an older sedan, which has a 3 speed auto, and a very tight tunnel, because the AW4 will just fit, and can be independantly controlled, it is one of the very few possible candidates

Yeah I've got a '77 hornet with a 258 and the stock 3 speed torqflite, got a 1997 4.0 with a aw4 I want to put behind the 258 with a custom shifter and what not, but I need to know what for sure id need if anything at all? I know I need the 2wd aw4 tailcone, but the u joints are the same size so most I'd have to do is shorten it lengthen the drive shaft
