It's in the instructions of all subs. The corner pocket design is about 1/4 cu.ft. of volume which is perfect for a 5 1/4" sub and pushing it on a 6 1/2" sub. Also it's best to have a hard surface to reflect the sub off. Why do I know this because I made that sub in 1990 for my 89 XJ and it didn't sound as good as a 6 1/2" bazooka tube that I put in my Dad's lincoln. I too was trying to save space put very unhappy with the volume level and definition of bass that I designed a much better design that slams with the same size and power amp and sub by directing the sound at the side panel( will post pics soon. Also been in the car audio biz and had my own car audio biz's for last 30 years, plus done work for and worked with all the names you can think of in car audio with my work at the SEMA and CES shows.
Yup....worst design ever. I absolutely hate the bass clarity I have from my JL 8" in the XJPod. I hate how it's doesn't overpower the mids and highs from my 4 mains. I hate that it takes up zero cargo room. And I hate that it sounds better than than a conventional boxed sub. You're right, worst design ever.

Next time you plan on bashing something, make sure you have actual evidence to show your case. Ans just in case you didn't catch the thicker than peanut butter sarcasm, I love my cubby hole sub and the sound it produces. One of the best ways I spent $60 from CL. As has been said, audio sound is all perception. I like mine. You may not, but I could care less as you're not the one driving my Jeep.

You know what they say about opinions...
And there are a LOT of them here... and the impartment of absolutely ZERO technical knowledge. You all my know a lot about Jeeps but it's obvious you know VERY little about audio (including the OP). But thats ok... as long as you enjoy your system, thats all that counts.

And for the record, subs don't "hit"

there are several tens out there now that only require .65 and some a a little less. I watched a video from kicker reps about the CVT subs that said you can put them in smaller boxes but will need more power to push it the way you want. so while the tuning of the box may be sketchy, the purpose was to have a sub, and have cargo room at the expense of sound quality. Everyone that has that setup knows that and is OK with it. So why start a post bashing them?

Haha, I feel like a scrub now that everybody was rippin on the guy, I kind of wanted to see what his idea was all about... But anyways, I'm glad to gear everyone loves there cubbyhole box. I plan to run the same set up when I can afford it! How much did you guys drop on your set ups? Head unit, 4 speakers, amp, and sub? Is it going to cost me an arm and leg? (noob with car audio, don't hate) I'm looking to get a decent set up, like some on mentioned on here I listen to everything but not much rap sinkholes want some good quality sound for what I listen too. I like it loud but I don't need oncoming traffic to know what I'm rocking out too!

I have a set up in my cherokee and I have 2 kicker 15s and a hifonics amp and 4 autotek door speakers and that all only cost me around 400. It may be a tad bit too loud for what you want. People can hear me from blocks away and half a mile away when I'm up in the mountains lol haha

Im running a sony xplod head unit. Kicker 6.5s up front. Kicker 5.25s in soundbar. Kfxhellraiser sub box with kicker comp 10. And 400 watt kicker amp. I think I have about 550-600 total investment. It sounds great no matter what I listen to.

For the speaker sizes (6.5 front and 5.25 rear) are those with out any mods? I heard people have had to cut out of the door frame the door panel and some other crazy stuff. Looking to keep stock look with otherworldly performance.

No cutting at all. Factory grilled over rear speakers and all. You can fit 6.5 in the sound bar but you can't reuse th factory grilles

Best way IMO is to go used. I got my dual 12" cadence wild beast subs (750 RMS a piece I believe), 1200 watt cadence amp, cadence power capacitor, two 5x7 two-way cadence in an enormous home-made bandpass box for $300. Pretty damn good for 135 db.
