Default XJ Plowing?

Did a search and found one other thread where the unibody on the XJ is no good for plowing. What about a light plow just mainly for my own driveway and neighbors.

Your better off just buying a gas powered snow plow.

People install 800 pound winch-bumper combos and they work fine.. I would wonder if the XJ is actually heavy enough to push that much weight without losing traction.

Pulling and pushing are two different things though. Plus your bumper and winch aren't suspended out in front of your XJ. I can't even imagine the amount of front squat you'd get throwing a plow on one and I don't know how a D30 would feel with that amount of weight on it. I did see one XJ plow vehicle around town this year and a car dealership in my area has one they appear to be turning into a plow vehicle. Would I do this to my own? Nope. That's what this is for...

smaller fiberglass plow wouldnt be bad but i definitely would take it easy with it. guy up the road from me has an 89 he plows with thing squats like a broken down honda in the hood with 15 people crammed in it lol. my grandfather had an old CJ he plowed with for years it did excellent but unibody ehh total different story

Heres an install story.

I saw in a search that there are some unibody reinforcement brackets available.
Look in that link I posted and maybe contact the supplier he dealt with for more info.

I've got a 7' Snowbear I'm putting on my 93. It's basically because I had the plow and the XJ sitting around and felt like having a backup to the real plow vehicle (V10 Ford Excursion). I'm definately going to have to look into upgrading the front suspension (thinking something along the lines of timbrens).

I'll be putting a western 6.5' on mine in the next week. Got the blade and a frame on CL for $100, picking up a unimount from a member here next Wed. Then just need to build the lift frame and hook it up. I will be using a 2,000 # winch to raise and lower it. Removing the hydro cylinders and will have to manually angle and pin the plow. I'm only planning on doing mine and some family & friends driveways so the manual angle wont be much of a problem. I'll start a thread when I begin the install.
