It seems to me zj gas tanks would be more vulnerable than xjs due to the xj having leaf springs. Also the xj has a metal bumper verses the zj plastic. Where else would they even put it, I don't know of anywhere that it wouldn't be in the way. My vote recall, everybody gets a skid plate, they already know how to make them because some came with gas tank skids from the factory. What about earlier xjs, wouldn't those be as much at risk as newer ones, or did they swap to a plastic tank in 93 on the xjs. I know the 93 zjs got a plastic tank.

Wonder if this is anything like the 73-87 Chevy/GMC truck exploding gas tanks from the early 90s, which really turned out to be a hoax by Dateline. lol

I will take my free skid plate though.

Ive always been told that the recalls will only be given out to the original owners of the vehicle. I have a 89 Camaro that had a recall on the paint but since I wasnt the original owner it didnt apply to me anymore.

That's not true, as long as you're within the recall period it doesn't matter if there were 50 PO

My 93 xj has a metal tank so i dont think they started plastic tanks in 93

xj's start having plastic in 97. zj's i think have always had plastic since they started being made in 93? or 94? i cant remeber which. my 96 xj had metal. and personally i like plastic better cuzz it doesn't rust.
