Default XJ Dana 44?

I know a guy seeling a Dana 44 from an old Cherokee and I'm trying to decide if it's worth me buying, or just building up my stock 8.25 that I have sitting in the driveway.

The Dana 44 has had the spring perches adjusted to help pinion angle for a lift, the shock mounts cut off and raised for clearance, full rebuild, and 4.10 gears. The only two things I'm not sure about is that it has a welded carrier (I'd want to swap out by next winter but would run it welded all summer), and a front disc brake setup off of a 3/4 ton 70's-80's Chevy pickup (no e-brake setup). Down to asking $350..

Otherwise I have a Chrysler 8.25 from a 97 XJ, no brakes/lines on it, 3.55 gears (currently matches front though), and open carrier, that I could build.

Eventually I'd like to have lunchbox lockers front and rear and 4.56 gears, but that's a bit away as I have a list of things to do before then. Just trying to see if the Dana 44 is worth the money to pick up for my Jeep and get some opinions. My Jeep will be going to 6.5" and running 35's.. Thanks for any opinions guys.
