The reason i ask if you dont know alot bout it you could talk yourself into situations that could get you into trouble or you got this nice jeep and someone who cant wheel it to its full potetial but i know you will like it i learned on a 4.5 and want bigger but if you know then sounds like a good deal

That 4.7 stroker in the 89 isn't a renix is it? I think they stopped in 88, but I'm not sure. If it is you could have some issues.

00 is what i would go with ... Even though the head's do crack... if you keep up on changing your coolant and make sure that the whole system is good then you will be fine. Better price for all that you are getting too.

There is no decision here... if it were up to me... I would get the older one.

I'd definately go with the '00. Its got the winch tire carier, sliders and long arms- easily more than the $500 difference. I like the idea of picking up the 89 also- just transfer all the axles, steering and stoker to the 00' and you will have a beast of an xj. (8 in of lift is kind of overkill also unless you go with larger than 35" tires-you will have a really high center of gravity).

The 94 has long arms sliders and an optional tire carrier...

Do you have any info on where you found the '00 haha my buddy is looking for an xj. And as for the 89' with the 00' axles and engine here in colorado, I would guess the same range mentioned earlier about 2000 give or take a couple hundred bucks.

I have a 96(old style similar to the 94) & a 98(new style similar to the 2000), neither are modified though.
I thought they would be very similar but they are VERY different
Totally non-technical, but just by way of comparison

The 98 is much more comfortable (seats & general setup)
The 98 is quieter @ higway speeds
The suspension on the 98 rides more like a sedan
My wife like the 98 MUCH more than the 96

The 96 makes me feel much more confident off the pavement, I can't tell you why as both are bone stock, but it rides and grips more solidly.

I think I would go with the 94 for your purposes... But on the other hand $4000 for the 2000 set up as it is, appears to be a very good price.

Well the 2000 has stock axles just regeared. The 89 has beefy axles and a beefy engine.
