I was seriously considering Wyotech. Then I went to visit the Daytona campus and damn. Not what I expected at all. It was terrible. I immediately crossed that college off my list. I'm looking at Baker College for the ADI course. I can go up to 4 years of schooling and get my masters in management. The school is great. Great people. The ADI center has been opened since last September so it is fairly new. Clean as well. And Baker is cheaper then both Wyotech and UTI

Would seem the best person to ask is a potential employer. Talk to the hiring person at a place where you'd like to work. Ask what most impresses them.

school like wyotech and UTI are a joke IMO. the training is super fast pace, lasts a little over a year IIRC. i would first go to your local community college and take some auto 100. also, you should look into factory programs if there is a specific brand or if you just want to work at a dealer. for chrysler its CAP, GM is ASEP, ford is ASSET, Toyota T10 etc. i am currently in the CAP program and working at a dealer doing oil changes and am already looking to get out. oh yeah and wyotech/uti students start off changing oil too, so its not like you are getting ahead by much just getting into lots of debt

I work with alot of guys that went threw our local cc auto program. Its a nice thing to have on paper but there by no means techs. If u can do homework and pass tests u can get a degree does not make you a tech. Most these guys i would honestly not let them change my oil. One completed the toyota program with a 3.75gpa i have showed him how to do basic work on his toyota. If you have mechanical ability already go ahead and get a degree from a cc. If you think it will teach you how to be a tech it honestly wont. It will teach you some great things to build your existing ability's

I went to UTI in Phoenix 20 years ago and did the auto/diesel program. I got hired at a Dodge dealer while I was still in school and learned a lot from that too. I did work as a mechanic at Montgomery Ward before I went to UTI, and did do some community college too, so I wasn't totally green. UTI did teach me about diesel and how to take an ASE test. I found it to be very helpful, it is what you put into it. If you don't have the talent and skill, they can't give you that. It takes more than just having info, it takes skill. I now have a great job that I love in the field I studied in with a State agency. My education from UTI helped me get my foot in the door. Worth the money? Not really, in my opinion.

Wyotech is a great school, but if I was going I would would thru the diesel program. The coal mines and drilling companies pick them fresh out of the program. The one problem is that the UW kids and the techies don't get along. Its not as bad as it used to be.
