Based on the front bumper alone....I'd be extremly cautious.

vin check was clear, im just kinda leary i guess he wants something that gets better gas mileage so he can drive to nevada. but you can tell the jeep has been ridden hard and put away wet. it has 238k on it, sometimes rough to start, feels like might need new tcm, or tps. and the tires are starting too look like slicks, what do you guys think, im into the jetta about 600 bucks right now, think the jeep is worth it with what i mentioned? or should i hold out for a stock xj?

238k? What is your VW worth? Would you buy that Jeep for that much(little) money? What is the XJ worth to you? The pics are real crappy and only show the body. How has it been maintained? Is it clean inside? Engine bay? Has the oil been changed recently? Just from my normal experience, anyone who doesn't take the time to keep the vehicle looking decent, is less likely to spend time doing maintenance. I don't care how many disclaimers are going to follow that statement, but that's the way I feel. I haven't been proven wrong yet.

My rig has dents and a crushed corner, but the engine is well maintained (the rear main seal leak don't count)

well the inside is clean and in really good shape (ugh power windows) they all work i just dont like power windows, prob due for a good servicing, oil most likely has not been changed nor the trans fluid at least not since he bought it, he hasent owned it but i think 5 months somewhere around there and he hasent done anything but drive it and from the looks he drove it pretty hard. he has said it has trouble starting sometimes, worse when its warm kinda just cranks for awhile before starting. has a minor power steering leak and i had if for a couple of hours and let it sit and didnt find any other leaks. i know he is asking 2500 for it but if i was to buy it outright i wouldnt pay that for it, sure it may be worth the 600 im into the jetta, but the jetta runs and drives great and doesnt need anything but if i did trade and then the jeep took a s*** on me i'd have to pour money into it and dont really think that in its condition could really have all that high of a value. and to be honest its not really about what its worth to me because i want another jeep but dont want to leave myself high and dry with it. so i posted this up maybe to see if anyone could remember this jeep from the colorado area.

Jeez, I have an 88 built almost the exact same, my mileage is 225k and runs strong. Power steering pump is easy to fix, but I would completely and absolutely check every part and see no "weird" modification has been done. Did you drive it yet?

yes i drove it, it seems to run strong, but it sure needs someone who would take better care of it, when it drive it seems like its gutless but if you manual shift it, it seems to have a lot more pick up, so i was thinking either the tps or tcm may need replaced. and to my surprise it was really soild going down the road.

No doubt, if you have doubts that alone is reason enough.

little late in this forum but i cant help myself to say something. i can tell from the pics: the tires are balding, the exhaust is rigged (may sound cool but could also be very illegal) and if it is an 88/89, then the power windows are put in by hand (who knows what else is) which in my opinion means- unless you know about electronics and can check over every wire in that car, i would leave it where it sits.

you want a good jeep get a stock jeep and up it from there. i speak from personal experience here, i bought mine lifted and the guy said all he did was lift and tires. ive had it for 4 years and am still fixing all his custom wiring among other things as well.

(yes i know my sig says "jeeps are built not bought", ive done more to my jeep now than i would have if i got it stock so im happy with my work and agree with the quote)

Does the jeep have lockers ? SYE? what brand and size of lift? From the looks I would tell the dude you would do a trade straight up.
