I like to spend most of my time sideways in the snow. Until my wife slaps me that is.

If the 4x4 is on, and you downshift, the engine will slow you with all 4 wheels. works awesome on some of the crazy PA hills.

Of course if you downshift too far, you will slide with all 4 wheels

Sorta.

But you can accomplish the same thing with the brakes, as they too slow all 4 wheels.

What I was saying is that when in 4wd it takes the exact same distance to stop as it would with 2wd. You don't increase the stopping ability of the truck as you are still at the mercy of your tires and the traction they get.

In the end, because you can quickly let off and on(pumping them), using your actual brakes is going to be more effecient than your suggestion. You can simulate ABS in a way.

What you are doing on the hills is slowing your speed without locking the tires. That is where the benifit is while engine braking.

All it takes, though, is to shift your momentum in a direction you don't want to go, and its all over.

light on the brakes. and only use them when your wheel is straight. turn with your slid. dont jab the gas. dont jerk the wheel. and stay atleast 10 below posted mph.

I hate ABS and am glad I don't have it.

I'd like my brakes to do what I ask them to do, not what the dumb ABS computer thinks they should do.

Look up the thread on weather people like ABS or not. Its even a poll.

You may find it interesting.

ABS just makes things worse.

Agreed. The only ABS I need is my right foot.
