Default Wind Drag with Light Bar or Basket

Hey guys I recently just got a good deal on a Carr Light bar and now that I have it I'm really wondering if it's worth it. I know right...think before buying...but it was a good deal!

Anyways, I wanna hear from you guys if you experience wind drag or loss of mpg with lights up top or a basket. I know a basket is bigger but just curious.

Have you guys any cons about a lightbar up top? Or any good things?
I guess I'm really looking for if it is worth it or if a couple lights on the front bumper are good enough.

Thanks.

Nah it won't make much a difference. There will be some wind drag on it, like everything else, but there's a lot of room for air to move throughout a cage, unlike a massive tire being stored up there. I would think your MPG loss would be <1. I plan to install one as soon as I can.

Lights on the bumper do work great, so if they work, there's no reason to go too high with them unless they're highly protected by a roof rack's bars or something. That will protect them from being hit by tree branches and things of that nature.

That makes sense. I know the light bar is higher up and definantly a problem for branches and such. And they wouldn't be protected

Spot/Pencil beams.
Anything else will cause too much glare off the hood.

A few suggestions:

If your budget allows, consider L.E.D. lighting. More light with less drain on your alternator.

Thanks guys, for now I decided to use some Harbor Freight Lights. A buddy has them on his bumper and their bright enough for their price.

May look into the Rigid Duallys for the front bumper when my budget gets up to that

I'll let you know if any loss in mpg. I too have a 3" lift with 31 ATs so it's no hybrid for sure
