So I was about to order the Detours Backbone to build a bumper from, and I stumbled across the L&L Fabrication bumpers. From what I saw on their website, it looks good, and the price just can't be beat, but I have a couple questions for any of you that have this bumper. In the pics I saw, it didn't appear to have the holes drilled to mount the winch, and it doesn't appear to have a mount for the fairlead. Does the bumper actually have all that or will I have to do some work to mount my winch to it? And how well does it attach to the frame (pics would be helpful). And for those of you that have the L&L winch bumper, how do you like it? I'm looking to order it by the end of the week, so any feedback will help. Thanks guys

 

I have it on my Jeep.

Fitment holes were all perfect. On the passenger side where the steering box would be there was small sheet metal in the holes I had to drill and beat out of the way to stick bolts through. Not the bumpers fault by any means.

Winch mounting was a little difficult. I wish the mounting plate was 1" wider. I made these brackets to bolt to the bumper and fairlead.








It's hard to mount the winch and not have it stick out super far but on the pre 97's you can just trim the grille to fit.








So I use the bumper, 1/2" brackets (what flat stock I had), and I bought longer supplied bolts to hold it all together. I want to take a 1/4" plate and brace underneath the bumper too but don't find it horribly necessary.

Bumper review... Awesome. Can't beat the price. Fabrication and welds are top notch. Lead time sucks to wait but is well worth it. I love it. It does hang a little bit lower than other bumpers but for the price it doesn't bother me plus it's steel, in not going to hurt it. I have the pre runner bars waiting to go on. That's gonna be a fun little project lol.

I might have enough to make another fairlead mount... Not sure though.

 

Cool, thanks man. Guess I should have paid more attention to your bumper last time I saw it lol. Making the fairlead mount is no big deal, I have plenty of steel for that. How long did it take you to get yours from the time you ordered it?

 

Lol come look at it again. I ordered on thanksgiving day and was quoted 6 weeks I think. Got it Jan 14th I think? Installed it the 18th I know that much. And it was out on bare metal cause I didn't have time to paint it lol.

 

Alright, I'm sold on the L&L winch bumper. Gonna order it by the end of the week. I even found a weld on winch plate in my garage today I had forgot about (bought it for the K5 Blazer I had, and sold the Blazer before I ever used it), so I can just weld that to the L&L, and have the fairlead mount and everything ready to go.

One more question about the L&L bumpers though, if you know, is their rear bumper with the 2" receiver built in strong enough for light towing? All I'd tow with it is just my little 5x8 trailer to make a trip to the dump once every week or two, picking up parts from the junkyard, things like that, not a whole lot of weight. I'm liking the look of their rear bumper too, and don't want a hitch hanging down below the bumper. I already hit the bumper on some rocks every once in a while, don't need to make the departure angle any worse.

 

They're well worth the weight.

I don't know if his rear bumper ties into the unibody anywhere other than the stock bracket holes. I'd send him an email and he is quick on responding and good to work with.

If he did a cut and fold bumper id grab it. Or add onto his at least...
