XJ bumper is steel, JK bumper is totally plastic and meant to crush on impact. XJ bumper is definitely stronger.

But the bumper is stamped, still way stronger than plastic though.

It's still fairly thick and way stronger than any stock bumper on anything in the last 10 years or so.

Well no one is, but in a fender bender I'd rather be able to replace my bumper if I even need to for $100 than have to do $1000+ in body repairs like you do with modern plastic/styrofoam bumpers.

Ha I feel like the stock bumper would do damage to the other car. But I can't stand it.

Weather Warrior is the one here who put on a JK bumper. It was posted in What Did You Do Today a few days ago. I've seen it, and it looks good.

It will, I rear ended a Protege at less than 1 mph the other day and it ****ed his bumper up and crushed part of his truck. If I had a plastic bumper both of our bumpers would be screwed up and I'd be replacing my headlight bezels and grill. Instead I didn't have a scratch on mine and I'm just paying a small deductible for his damage.

Everyone makes a big deal about pres Reagan "allowing" car makers to go to the "slower" bumper to save costs. used to anyway.

These days though the bumpers are made to crumble with the thinking that people will be hurt *less* at non-lethal impact speeds.

Which means your bumper is hurt more when some knuckle head rear ends you in traffic.

Yup, I did this mod. JK bumper actually fits pretty easily. With the growing interest, I definitely will work up the build/mod thread.

It is true that the outer bumper is plastic, however there is a decent inner steel portion. I'll get into details and opinions on that in my thread.

One thing I have yet to figure out is if it is possible to do winch. JK have them, but the rails/frame are spaces and extended differently than on the XJ (which while is a unibody, has frame-like portions at the front).

I hope to do the thread early this week, depending on my other work (waiting for some other video editing orders to get the green light). I will have video and photos.

BTW, I have all but abandoned the idea of doing matching JK fender flares.
