the 140 is only a 110/120v machine, so it does have it's limitations. mostly duty cycle, but also thickness of steel. believe it's max is 1/4 inch multiple pass.
i believe it also has a tapped output control, which is also limiting.
good machine to learn on, but you may limit yourself with it's capabilities.
should be ok if you can get it cheap enough.

I've got a 140. It's better than you might think. Plus you can add gas for anther $200ish. A buddy with a lot more welding expirance Scott at it till he used it, so....

The hobart is a great machine specially since its easy to use as a 110v or 250v i work delivering welding supplies and we sale a few of those not as many as the millers or lincoln 140c or 180c but the hobart as a hobbyist machine shall suit your needs... Compact light weight and versatile
Looks mighty nice and that bad boy will weld pretty much anything... Also its really easy to get parts for and repair... To bad your not i the Seattle/Tacoma area i could get you great prices on consumables and other things that would come in handy :

I do a lot of field welding for work and use one of those same machines and it does a good job using flux core wire. If you want to make pretty welds though you will want to get gas for it and a regulator. Congrats on the new machine and have fun melting metal
