Why are used wranglers so expensive? Hell not to mention the newer ones. Thought about getting one if the engine or trans on my XJ goes out. But just going thru Craigslist and browsing online dealerships the prices got me changing my mind real quick. A lot cheaper to fix my XJ if the time ever comes. I've also noticed that I barely or close to NEVER see old wranglers at the junk yards. I see XJs and a lot of ZJs but never wranglers. Why is that? Maybe they last longer? Lolz

I've never understood it, the only reason I can see is demand. More people want that style of Jeep. You don't see them at junkyards because most of those guys know the prices they command, and part them out before they even hit the yard, or if they DO hit the yard, they are picked clean in minutes, LOL

Also, they are easier to rebuild, being a body on frame construction, ever see a catalog of just wrangler parts? You can basically build an entire rolling chassis just out of those catalogs. Tub damaged? Get a new one. Frame bent? Get a new one.

We used to have a CJ7. Learned to drive in that rig. Loved it, and wouldn't mind having another.

But, I just can't see paying that kind of coin, unless I hit the lotto, haha!

Because of the 'Wrangler Tax'.

If you think they are bad, look at most anything diesel and the 'Diesel Tax'.

Sold a 2001 with 53000 miles in excellent condition in 2010 with 2 inch lift and 31 inch tires for $12000 , just what I was asking . People tried to get me to come down but I held firm and someone paid it .
The Wrangler and CJ's have held resale value as long as I can remember .

A wrangler and a diesel pickup never lose any value over the years. The book value is the reason you don't see a wrangler at a junkyard either,The insurance won't total a car unless it cost 60% or more of its book value to repair.

They're not overpriced.
They're priced at just what they sell for.

It's called a free market, supply and demand, and popularity.

Nobody is entitled to one.......

They're no Toyota... 250,000 miles, $12,000!

When I bought my excursion in 2012 I could get a 2002 v10 gas 4x4 with 150,000 miles on it for $8000 or a 2002 diesel with 350,000 miles on it for $20,000.

So I bought a v10.

My girl and I really miss the Wrangler, but the XJ is something she can drive and we can still go adventure some trails. without breaking the back on extreme trails.

I picked up my TJ for a pretty good deal 5 years ago. Since then, I have watched prices on them steadily rise. I've added 15,000 miles in my ownership. I'm not going to sell it, but I'm pretty confident it would sell for quite a bit more than what I paid.

Simple economic principle of supply and demand.

From what i see on craigslist most wranglers cheap to me are 4 cylinder 5 speed yj high miles and beat up,Or its got frame rust bad and the tube is rotted out also. The rest i see are 8k and way up.Call me crazy but i rather have a full size bronco or k5 blazer over a wrangler.

I dunno, but I really am liking my Wrangler.

Probably helps that it's got a frame and not a unibody.

In my opinion when people think Jeep, they think of the offroading, taking the top off and taking the doors off which tends to be the Wrangler or CJ style of vehicle, rather than the Cherokees, Grand Wagoneers or any of the others out there. Also the current popularity of the JK is probably giving people that have a tighter budget the option of having a similar vehicle by purchasing a YJ and TJ.
