Angry Why can't we have this?

I mean seriously. China gets it, and we don't? I'm calling shenanigans on this.

They were produced until 2005, but I love the updated exterior. It's a little more modern, but it still has that core look that's so endearing. With Mercedes-Benz out of the picture, I think Jeep needs to bring the Cherokee back. With the economy in the state it is, I think the US would be very receptive to a new Cherokee, a smaller, entry-level SUV that's just as dependable as the old one.

I agree with halmotors. I think people would like the idea of a smaller suv thats still a little bigger then the crossover/suv (liberty) and much smaller then most other suvs, all the while not compromising ability and reliability. Hey if it came out new and was just as reliable as it is now, i'd pay the X amount of dollars to get it.

But they cant have too much plastic crap on it...

The problem with the current Jeep lineup is that you have 7 vehicles:
  • Two of them are considered offroad vehicles with a potential for some pretty decent wheeling with a minimum of aftermarket mods.
  • One of those two (the Wrangler Unlimited) is more catered to the family.
  • Two other, the Grand Cherokee and Commander, are larger luxury SUV models with limited offroad potential. Cost: $$$$
  • The other three models are essentially carbon-copies of each other. They offer a small amount more offroad capability than the GC and Commander, but still pale in comparison to the Wrangler and the second generation Cherokee.
Prices range from $18k for an entry-level compass to $50k for an SRT8 Grand Cherokee. There's nothing in the current lineup that matches the Cherokee for price and potential capability. It's high-time Jeep stepped up and brought the Cherokee back, with all the things that made us love it in the first place, and none of the fluff and electronic nonsense that bloat so many other models of cars over the years of their lifetimes.

CINO's. Cherokees In Name Only. At least in regards to the non-US Liberty. I can't speak for the off-road capability of the Chinese Cherokee, but the looks are great, in my opinion.

i would not mind a diesel engine at all! my dad has the GC with the Mercedes diesel in it, and that thing is awesome.

i dunno what the demographic mindset for the Australian Cherokee (Liberty in the USA) is over there, but over here, the Liberty really is girlie in the mindset of the consumer. when you think that way, any off road prowess that the vehicle may have, is gone, and depletes any after market support. if they took the high points from the inception of the Cherokee and worked off of that, bringing back some type of rugged look like all our beloved XJs, a state-side welcome back to the market would be considered extraordinary.

and Chrysler Corp. need to get rid of any stupid "front wheel drive" variation on all jeeps for good! disgraceful!!! what would grandpa ***** have to say to that!?!?! lol

That's my point, really. Begin with the fundamentals that made the Cherokee so wildly popular and loved by the masses, and give it...a facelift. Updated interior and exterior. Keep the underpinnings true to the pure enthusiast, make it easily modified by the aftermarket. Hell, even offer dealer-direct upgrades that actually WORK and are desired by people.
