I like it too. I wish they would quit trying to copy the old cherokee in most of the models and just bring it back, even if it looked like that. They copied the old cherokee classic in the commander, patriot, and liberty.

I understand what youre saying...
But you also got too look at it from Jeeps perspective. That they can make more money, if they take one model, and turn into 3 different ones...no matter how heinous, those 3 are . Well...the commanders not to bad, in the sense that it can have the Hemi in it...I have NO CLUE as to how they perform offroad.

And the compass & patriot... GOD DAMN IT! LAAAAAME!! I always want to laugh at the drivers, and then give them the finger. lol
These 2 are should NOT be called Jeeps!

WTF?!?! ..I just pulled this off Jeeps site...its about the Patriot...

"Off-Road 4WD "LOCK" mode activates the off-road Antilock Brake System (ABS), traction control and optimized engine and transmission calibration for rock crawling."

...Rock Crawling....ROCK CRAWLING!!!! .... I cant believe they just f***in said that....

...And Phew! I HAD to look...and yes, they dont give the Compass an offroad performance rating/review....even though its still available with this 4WD "LOCK" mode ..."it" doesnt "lock" anything...all it is, is the computer controlling the brakes, traction control, & engine/transmission. There is NO "locking" of anything, anywhere...

Surely the Wrangler Unlimited it the current successor to the XJ. It's great off road in stock trim and easy to modify. It's also relatively cheap.

IMO, I think the XJ was too good of an "all around'er" so they had to stop production in order to increase their model line-up....without everyone going straight for the XJ...Its all about money, thats all.

Production of the Cherokee was halted when Bernhard came to Chrysler from Mercedes-Benz. The word is that he didn't think the 'bland' Cherokee had any sort of future in the Jeep lineup, so cut production. Hence my signature.

I'm warming up to the Unlimited a little bit now, but I still think it would have been great had they tweaked the front a little and let the 4 door be the new Cherokee.

Financially, it was a sound move. They have to look at the bottom dollar after all, and at that point Chrysler wasn't exactly a cash cow.

It's because we're stuck with aging technology in these vehicles because some German schnitzel wanted to line his coffers a little more. Production should have never stopped on it. Sales were great for the Cherokee, and it was a desireable vehicle with great sales potential in the future.

I will always love my Jeep. Own 2 as of right now and plan on at least 2 more. I need a DD and the wife needs a trail rig.

if i'm not mistaken, i believe you can bring one over from Australia. you'd have to do some tweaks to get the CARB standards for stateside driving down, but isn't too big of a hassle. only downside is that if you want parts to replace or performance upgrades, you are going to dump so much money, because none of those parts are available here. but, agreed, i would not mind having that car here, it'd be a hit seller.
