So the iro long arm set up connects the lower and upper control arm mounts on one side and only the lca mount on the other side. So why are there two upper control arms on a short arm set up? I'm sure there's a really obvious reason but I jut can't think of it.

Not only are there 2 upper arms on short arm setups, but there are two upper arms on everybody else's radius arms. IROis the only weird setup like that.

For some reason the people at iro think its perfectly fine to have a weak setup with less control than stock, and there are plenty of people out there who will disagree. I wouldnt run it.
3 links can be perfectly fine... if they are built right.

Sorry, I taught about the side with the singl arm. And you are right, its exactly as if you got any other radius arm setup and ditched one of the arms.

Also if you are asking about what the difference would be to get rid of one of the shortarms vs this is that the stock lower control arm mounts are weaker then the crossmember mounts for the longarms. So as far as I know its not advisable to remove one of the upper shortarms because then you only have one arm holding the axle on a stock mount.

Hmm interesting. So theoretically, not saying I would, you could only run one upper control arm and gain flex and stuff. Probably not that much more flex without long arms though.

You could theoretically but you are weakening the setup that way. You dont want to break a control arm if its the only arm holding your axle on that side. But that is still different then the IRO setup. If you remove one of the stock arms you still have 3 mounts at both ends. On the stock setup you have 4 mounts on the body side and 4 mounts on the axle. On evryone else's radius arms you have 2 mounts on the frame and 4 on the axle. On this contraption you have 2 mounts on the frame and only 3 on the axle.

Ahh I see what you're saying. So you really wouldn't gain flex because the single upper control arm would be still attached to the frame. Ha maybe more flex on one side lol.

More like you shouldnt do it because the stock mounting brackets are too weak to support the axle with one arm removed. As far as flex I really dont know.
