Whose taking the big cleats and rims off and who doesn't care haha. I'm a fan of keeping my junk fairly clean so I swapped the 31s on my eagle alloys out for my stocker steel wheels with some freshly mounted 235/75/15 winter tread recaps. Now the xj looks goofy with the tires not sticking out but actually under the stock flares. Feel free to post pictures to. I'll get one up later.

 

This is a great idea theres just not too many cheap steel wheel options for me out there on craigslist.

I have my old set of street tires i could use for the winter too, just waiting on a cheap pair of silverblades to come up on craigslist. all the good deals are 8hrs+ away from me.

 

This thread makes me scratch my head. You have big meaty tires on your Jeep, yet you switch rims for other meaty tires? Unless you're running something like TSL's or other big THICK treaded tires, there is no reason to switch wheels/tires if you're running AT's or MT's. LOL. Drive a mustang through a winter with all-seasons, then drive a Jeep through a winter with any tire you want, and tell me what you prefer.

Salt is corrosive.. its normally used in the winter to thaw the roads from snow and ice. Its not the best for jeeps.. or their rims, but hey to each their own.

 

Whichever one has better snow tires.

 

I daily drive these. Also with the custom grooving and siping I did they kick *** in the snow (even the slick plowed icy crap on the road)

 

I wasted a set of aftermarket chrome wheels in one year up here... so I understand what he is saying if he has wheels he doesnt want to rust out..... I dont buy aftermarket chrome anymore..... I also understand the big lug mud tires dont always work as well in the ice. snow maybe... but then I have never had issues going anywhere I wanted to go with my bfg a/t or toyo m/t tires

 

siping makes them not suck in snow. my wheels are painted and the insides have enough tie rod end grease from broken boots that they will never rust lol

 

It's not a problem for me. My XJ has factory alloy rims and I live in the south. On the rare occasion that we actually do get snow, they use some sort of sand/gravel mix to melt the snow, not salt.

 

I pray we even get snow this winter.

unless you have chrome wheels, Im not sure why swap wheels.

seems like 80% if not more of the forum is running steelies any way. I opted for alloy, but then again Im not rock crawling so wanted the lighter rim.

 

I don't swich rims but I do take out the summer air and switch to winter air.

 

Seems to me that if you bought decent wheels you wouldn't have to worry about it.

 

I wish I could afford two complete sets...
