I've been looking around. I'd like to have a set with street tires to run daily and keep the M/T's for trails.

i have 2 sets of matte black painted stock wheels. I just bought 31" studded at's for this winter. I dont care if regular a/t's are good enough, I commute 40 miles and go on a lot of snowboarding trips. studs and different rims are where its at.

guess i shouldnt have posted this thread..I only switched rims because the eagle alloys would probably be junk by next spring, they are alreadty oxidizing. I just had in mind that a few other xj owners would switch to cheap rims for winter. guess im the only one who cares about the looks of the jeep. Switched to recaps because the tread pattern had many tiny sipings in them which does wonders in snow vs the open cleat mud claws. Didnt mean to offend anyone, jesus.

They have salt everywhere here in the DC area. I just wash my XJ once a week during the winter.

I care about looks, but I think flat black steelies look best on a Jeep with aggressive tires

Seriously... what the hell is this thread? What does "fairly clean" mean?
I switched the open tread mud claws to a thinner tread recap with softer compound and more sipings so they are not all that cleaty. and by fairly clean i meant its a daily driver and I usually dont bash it in the woods every chance i get. I like to keep the xj looking clean just because the body is decent, once i get it in the woods il start breaking parts and beating the exterior up.

Makes perfect sense to me. I'd do the same.

I used to run 39" swampers on my Bronco during some bad Iowa winters.............kinda scary on the highway overpasses at times.

no prob, didnt affend me at all. I agree with ya. save your rims if they are nice. tires are personal preference for winter... salt plays havoc on chrome and some aluminum wheels. no doubt someone will change over there wheels and thank you for it later. in our area its just been the last couple of years that they have put down a salt brine in the winter and they think more is better.. rusted out a set of pipes on the harley in one year. bastards cost me alot of money last couple of years.

Pretty much. I built my xj to drive and it's still nice enough to justify whether or not I should pound it in the woods. I'm only 17 and when I break stuff I'm on my own to fix it. I do my best to keep the xj clean and running because when it's broke I'm broke. If I had a ratty Cherokee sure I'd be in the woods every chance I get

Nothing wrong with taking care of your stuff. Lots of people change wheels and or tires in the winter. I used to live in KC, Let zimdogg come up here for a winter, he might change his mind.
