I have seen the T-rex in person. its pretty cool, I think its more $$ then benefit. But it is cool. rock-wells are the best option for sure. either way good luck.

I saw the remains of an old 6x6x in a salvage yard (WWII or before) it actually had a separate drive shaft to each rear end from the transfer case. The rear driveshaft went to the side and above the front pumpkin. Really strange and did not allow much travel.

If we had more snow I'd HAVE a set of Mattrax. They're awesome.
2.5ton Rockwells can be cut down to a manageable size. You'd have to really plate the frame rails and the ONLY way you could make this happen is to have the center of the rear axle under the back bumper. They're telling you to add a MJ bed because the XJ itself really isn't long enough if you plan on running any tires larger than 31s.
Without thinking about everything you'd need I'd budget about 10 grand for this project to be close to right.

Run a driver side drop front axle, passenger side drop seconded axle and then a normal rear axle. that would get you drive lines. bump stop the crap out of it so you dont break a drive shaft. gearing and such would be fun on that middle axle though. the rest is dooable if you got the time and skill. oh and funds.

i wont get to search parts till monday
i asked because maybe some one knows of a trans case with two rear out puts lik on one of our old loggin trucks we had years ago it was a d/12 and it never got stuck . i also saw another truck at a quarry with single tire rear tandems on it Probably an old doge ww2 some thing.
this idea was to stir the pot and it cetrainly has. i up for doing it after i save / gather all the parts. i know an old junk guy i should go talk to he mite just have some old something he wants to get rid of. and some tandem crane truck in a field not far from my house old military stuf then there's unimog axles i think those can still be had but for $ but there strong too.
i want to show off my skills i think a 6x6 would do a little of that.

You would have to frame and stretch the rear to get both axles back there and have something for them to bolt to. Not easy, but possible.
I was going to say it might be easier just to find something with tandem axles and put the cherokee body on it.

You can use the drivline from a Volvo C303 6x6 aka. TGB13 6x6 Command Cab
and get portal axles and air locked diffs, and easy to use 35" tires. They drive better then most other 6x6 but cost a fair bit in both buying and service.
But just an idea.

That goofy banjo thing is what I saw in a salvage yard, what is the name of the Swiss military vehicle, they come either 4 or 6 wheel. Ugly boxy looking thing but way cool.
