Default Where do you get your parts?

Hey all, I am new to the auto world, 23, 7 years at a top end bicycle shop for whatever that's worth. I just picked up my first car, a totally abused 1992 Cherokee Sport. It needs some work, honestly I don't know how much yet, but I am starting with the very rusty floors. Enough with the intro, on to the question. Where do you get your parts from? Is Auto Zone a good place to be checking for prices and parts or should I be looking elsewhere?

Thank you all for this wonderful resource!

I go through Advanced Auto Parts, because I have a commercial account with them. (actually have an account with most, but prefer them because of availability)

Not so much the outlet, as the brand. Alot of companies have "In House" brands, i.e Duralast from Auto Zone, Napa from (you guessed it) Napa, etc etc.

For the Jeep, you're gonna see alot of

BWD/Standard Motor Products - Body & engine electrical, i.e distributor caps & rotors, coils, switches & relays, sending units, etc.

Dorman - Pulleys, door and window parts, o-rings, fittings, etc.

Fenco - Power steering & water pumps, hoses, calipers, etc.

Remy - Starters, alternaters, etc.

Johnson Controls - Optima & Autocraft batteries.

The big one is Federal Mugal, they make basically anything through these companies they own -

Moog - Chasis & steering components

Fel-Pro - Gaskets

Motor City - Bearings

Sealed Power - Internal engine, i.e wrist pins, rocker arms, pistons, conneting rods, etc.

Theres loads more. In all honesty, any replacement part is gonna be a step up from whatever worn out bit your replacing. Shop around and get the best price, but use common sense. If the price on the same part is drastically different, chances are they're different in design or function.

Anything else, just ask!

X2

But if I am not in a super big hurry to get parts I usually order from RockAuto, parts are usually where cheaper even with shipping and only takes a day or two to get to me. If I order on Monday I usually have parts on the doorstep Wednesday.

Check out the local small private run parts places too. We have one here in town that usually beats the big stores prices and most of the time has the part in stock. I bought my heater blower motor through them and it was $60 cheaper than Napa or Advance. Check out the junkyards too, never know what you'll find. Best thing I've found is to be good friends with other Jeep owners as they can help with finding the best place to get those miserable hard to find pieces. I buy patch panels for the floors of everything through Keystone. Usually have it within a couple days.
