So I was in the junkyard over the weekend looking for some stuff and came upon one of the most barebones no frillys XJs I've ever seen. It was a 2WD..Manual transmission..2.5 4 cylinder engine with a Dana 35 rear. Is this just about the most basic way you can get an XJ? And if it is..Why would you?

If they wanted an XJ, but had no use for the cost of 4x4, liked to have a 5 speed, didn't want a "big" 4.0... sounds like an old man Jeep. And the D35 might mean antilocks... Or maybe not. You come across a lot of these.

The most barebones XJ I could imagine would be a 2 door, 2.5L, 5 speed, 2wd, no abs, no ac, no tach, no radio, no roof rack, no power steering, no power locks or windows, 215/75/15 tires on steelies, etc etc.
But, it'd still have "The Dome."
