are there 16' or 17' wheels that fit a 96 cherokee

They would fit just like a 15", as long as they have the same lug pattern and the backspacing you're looking for. 5 on 4.5" lug pattern, stock backspacing is 5.25"

YJ, TJ, ZJ, XJ, KJ, and KK all have the same bolt pattern (5x4.5 or 5x114.3) and center bore. I have a list compiled of all alloy 5x4.5 Jeep wheels with whatever extra info about them I've been able to confirm. I'll probably add the steelies to at at some point.

The bolt pattern is pretty common the big problem is back spacing really.

I put TJ Rubicon MOAB 16" wheels on my Cherokee. Easy to find, inexpensive to buy and easy to restore ... and they're from the Jeep "family".

2" lift - 245/75/16" (30") tires ...
