Default What are your thoughs on monstaliner?

I own a 2001 xj. The paint starting to chip a little and my door is a different color due to being replaced. I recently have been looking at pictures of people who monstalined their entire xj. After my first offroading trip I noticed that I have a lot of scratches and would prefer something that 1. Looks nicer than my scratched, peeling, mismatched paint. And 2. Is more durable. Does anyone have a write up on how to monstaline the entire jeep? I plan on doing the outbreak color. Thank you!

Google "project Pathfinder." There's a whole blog along with lots of fantastic videos detailing the guy's whole process of Monstalining his Pathfinder (3-tone scheme).

Sometime this year I'm going to be doing my XJ in a 2-tone scheme with Monstaliner. Here is a rough rendering of what I'll be doing.

I Monstalined my hood and roof because they were faded. I also did my header and aftermarket bumper. As soon as I trim my fenders I will do the whole thing. I'm happy with the results and how easy it was to prep and apply.

Monstaliner is a great product, I applied it to the outside of my XJ about 3 years ago, hasn't faded or chipped at all. Very pleased with the outcome. Just follow the directions when prepping and applying.

Although you only did half the jeep. How has this affected the gas mileage. My 2 main concerns with this project is gas mileage and that I don't want it to end up looking extremely coarse. I like how yours looks, but I've seen Some that look chunky

One of my buddy's old jeeps was bedlined. It was the chunky kind. It was rugged and looked good from 20ft away. I think it would be perfect for a wheelin rig or something that you just want to beat up the paint on.

Spraying it makes it very coarse. Rolling it has smoother results. Running the roller back over it when it's tacky provides coarseness somewhere in the middle.

I'm planning on using 2-3 gal to do my whole XJ, and I'm anticipating 12 extra pounds of weight vs normal automotive paint and a negligible effect, if any, on aerodynamics.

Can't say about mileage, I'm on 35's and geared to 4.56. But I rolled mine in and didn't go over it after I applied it. It cleans right up and isn't rough at all. I didn't want it rough either, that's why I used the monstaliner vs rino, raptor, or any other liners. Stay away from the ones that use chopped up rubber and other additives.

I'm planning on doing my roof (white) this summer and the hood (black) too. Really pleased with it.

What kind of prep work is required?

scuff up the paint with a Scotchbrite pad and wipe down surface with a degreaser like MEK.
